2008 Year in Review

As many of you may know, this year has had its share of trials, tribulations and joy.

In January, I joined Kimberly-Clark in the IT department on the Desktop team that manages all of the corporations PCs along with the hardware/software for the PCs.

Ollie Baxter

In March, we added a new member to our family. We picked up a little male Yorkshire (Yorkie) Terrier we named Ollie Baxter. With a house that once had only a cat (who didn’t like dogs)… it was an interesting experience. But, the cat adjusted and we adore Ollie as he’s brought tremendous joy in a year we needed it most.

My strongly independent and brilliant mother passed away on May 5^th at the tender age of 55. The holidays were her favorite time of year. She loved spending time with her family and sharing unique gifts she’d collected throughout the year. It brought her great joy to watch as others opened her gifts.

During the first week of July, I had the opportunity to go wakeboarding in the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri with a group of friends from work. It was a wonderful time!

Penny Lou

In July, we welcomed another member into our family. Her name is Penny and she was my parents’ very mild and gentle golden retriever mix who is approximately 12+ years old. But don’t tell her she’s a “senior” as she’s learned a few new tricks from Ollie. Penny is a wonderful addition and she means a lot to the family.

In August, I (following in my mother’s footsteps) got my motorcycle’s license.

In September, Daniel turned the “big” 3-0. In October, I officially turned 29 (and holding).

Shiny and New Dishwasher

After a few years of convincing, we are happy to say our kitchen includes a shiny and new dishwasher along with a garbage disposal. In order to create storage space where some was lost (as we had to remove a cupboard), we re-organized our hall closet with adjustable metal shelving.

Pumpkin Carving

Following tradition, Daniel and I carved pumpkins. We had a great time and are happy with the outcome. We cooked the pumpkin seeds which is one of my favorite parts about pumpkin carving. Mmm.

New Gadgets

I’m the proud owner of a new Canon Powershot G9 and a new 16 GB SanDisk Sansa View. Both the camera and mp3 player have exceeded my expectations. I’d highly recommend them both.

MP3 Players

I’ve been debating for a few months over which MP3 player will best fit my needs. After doing research and going in-stores to feel which MP3 player I liked, I have learned that many companies are soon releasing updated versions of their MP3 players. At this time, the number one contender on my list is the upcoming SanDisk Sansa player which comes in a 8 GB and generious 16 GB model.

Digital Cameras

I am very excited to read that Canon has announced today their latest edition of their PowerShot G series of cameras. I initially was looking at the Canon PowerShot G7. When I went to a local camera store to look at it in person, they had mentioned the camera will be discontinued soon. Thus, I decided to do some research and found the new Canon PowerShot G9 would be announced by the end of the month. To my happiness, the camera was announced today! Can you tell what I want for my birthday??

We currently have a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P10, however, lately we are noticing how much we take pictures and are outgrowing our camera.

Chicago Vacation

Daniel and I spent Wednesday, August 1^st and Thursday, August 2^nd at Six Flags Great America. We went on 9 rollercoasters on the first day, and went on over 14 rollercoaster rides on Thursday (thanks in part to the Gold Flash Pass)! We walked over 13 miles in those two days!! Our favorite rollercoasters were the Raging Bull and the Superman: Ultimate Ride. On Friday, August 3^rd, we spent the day in Chicago. Thank goodness for GPS devices as we were able to avoid tollways! In Chicago, we toured the Museum of Science and Industry and experienced Gino’s East pizza per my brother-in-law’s recommendation.

Volunteering

Today I had my second experience working with Rebuilding Together. It is a great opportunity to help others in the community and add some new skills to my tool belt. I know now how to remove wall paper (yuck), repair holes in walls with new drywall, tape/mud drywall, and install vinyl flooring!! I would definitely recommend the organization to anyone as it’s a great way to meet people, help others in need, and gain new skills in the process!

Kitchen Faucet

We have news regarding the kitchen faucet. The original kitchen faucet to the home would have water coming out the faucet and sprayer if you chose to use the sprayer. Now, I thought this was how it was supposed to work, but discovered that the water should only come out the sprayer or the faucet not both. We put up with the sprayer since buying the house, but recently one of the handles broke. So, we’d been switching it back and forth to do the dishes (mind you we don’t own a dishwasher). Being that our sink has a shallow depth of 6″ we decided to go with the high neck style faucet to make it easier to fill pots and wash dishes. Winter Weekend Projects

I was busy lady this weekend. Ran many errands, cleaned the house from top to bottom, visited with the in-laws, and even installed a nifty organizer in the kitchen. It is a great way to create usable storage from a normally unused space.

Holidays 2006

For the holidays, Daniel and I drove to visit my sister and her boyfriend in Hudson, WI. My family enjoyed a traditional family recipe called Sour Creme Roast for supper and exchanged gifts afterward. In addition, Daniel and I went to the Mall of America and to the Ikea store! At Ikea we had a great time and purchased two Lock wall shelves. It was Daniel’s first time going to Ikea and he loved it! When we returned home I we put up the shelves we purchased. We put one in my office and the other in the master bedroom. Daniel and I also spent time with his family for the holidays.
